ANDREW JILKA
Salina, Kansas, USA, 1986
El trabajo de Andrew Jilka pretende buscar consuelo en lo desconocido mientras confronta la inquietud y pesadez de la rutina. Es un intento por reconciliar su cultura “aw-shucks”, franca, Wal-Mart, del medio oeste con el lenguaje de la pintura con P mayúscula. Jilka considera su trabajo una destilación de nerviosismo colectivo, ansiedad y optimismo.
Sus composiciones luminosas y coloridas utilizan la ilusión de la lógica y la estabilidad para cuestionar cuál puede ser la relación entre la pintura y la inquietud palpable del presente. A través de su práctica de pintura, explora las desviaciones que evolucionan en la tradición, cuestionando las estructuras y cimientos que dan información de la vida contemporánea.
